An Engineer 2 is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical, and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems, and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability is at the function level.
The Engineer 2 within Inventory Management Technology is responsible for designing and developing highly available, robust, and scalable solutions for an events-based inventory management platform. Maintaining inventory accuracy as we transact billions of dollars’ worth of inventory is a key goal of the inventory platform which in turn increases the efficiency of other Nordstrom retail and e-commerce functions like planning, finance, store operations etc.
**A day in the life…**
+ Design and collaborate with local and partner teams
+ Implement efficient solutions that meet the business needs
+ Test all scenarios and conform to quality standards
+ Identify performance issues; apply knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals (e.g., cross-site scripting, security certificates)
+ Demonstrate thorough knowledge of information technology concepts issues, trends and best practices as they relate to the discipline/practice
+ Demonstrate advanced knowledge of specific needs of a major line of business and the related set of applications, systems or functions
+ Collaborate and work with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver solutions on time
**You own this if you have…**
+ 4+ years of professional experience in practice area
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering or equivalent practical experience
+ Experience analyzing, designing, coding, testing, installing and maintaining complex software programs
+ Experience with Backend Database RDBMS (preferably Oracle) or NoSQL databases
+ Experience with RESTful architecture and micro services. JSON and XML is required
+ Experience with Amazon AWS services is required
+ Familiarity with containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker) and modern development practices and development lifecycle using Scrum, Kanban, Lean or other agile methodologies
+ Familiarity with CI/CD and testing tools
+ Familiarity with messaging middleware (Kafka, SQS)
+ Experience with writing services as well as consuming services using REST, SOAP, XML, JSON or any combination
+ Emphasis on building metrics into the system and providing visibility on uptime and performance via real time alerting, reporting, and dashboards
+ Sound object-oriented design skills and knowledge of application design patterns
+ Experience working with diverse, collaborative, cross-functional teams
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to persuade inspire and motivate others. This includes communicating technical information to nontechnical audiences
+ Experience with Oracle Retail Merchandising Applications (RMS, RIB, SIM) is a plus
+ Highly self-motivated and directed
