**Job Description**

An Engineer 2 is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical, and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems, and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility, and accountability is at the function level.

We are looking for a Software Engineer 2 to join our Product Platform team that provides a single source of product information across channels from Desktop, Native mobile apps, NRHL (Nordstrom Rack & HauteLook), etc. This position plays a crucial role in building modern architecture ingesting data from multiple sources, syndicating the data with low latency and high-performance solutions using AWS. These technology products and solutions provide amazing and seamless customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business.

**A day in the life…**

+ Design and collaborate with local and partner teams

+ Test all scenarios and conform to quality standards

+ Identify performance issues; apply knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals (e.g., cross-site scripting, security certificates)

+ Demonstrate thorough knowledge of information technology concepts issues, trends and best practices as they relate to the discipline/practice

+ Demonstrate advanced knowledge of specific needs of a major line of business and the related set of applications, systems or functions

+ Develop components of modern, large scale RESTful Micro Services and ingestion engine for use by internal/external teams in a fast-paced retail environment

+ Work in a true Agile environment where all team members are expected to own the solution including deployment, testing, quality, monitoring and operational excellence

+ Desire to have full ownership of the entire SDLC from conception through build and deployment, test automation to ongoing production operational support (all team members are expected to take an on-call shift to support our systems 24/7)

+ Anticipate system/application challenges and propose solutions for the same

+ Participate in design and code review to ensure quality and testability of feature code

+ Adjust positively to quickly changing priorities and shifting goals

**You own this if you have…**

+ 3+ years of professional experience in software development is required

+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering or equivalent practical experience

+ Demonstrated proficiency with modern OO language (Java is preferred)

+ Experience with streaming technologies such as Kinesis or Kafka

+ Experience with AWS or other cloud-based environments and tools such as S3, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda is a plus

+ Experience with caching technologies such as Redis is a plus

+ Experience with Docker/Kubernetes/GitLab CI/CD is a plus

+ Experience in the e-commerce or retail space is a plus
