**Job Description**

A Principal Engineer is part of a key team of Nordstrom IT professionals that applies scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems and solutions. This is a strategic position within the Engineering discipline, influencing the direction and technology decisions for discipline/practice. The scope, responsibility and accountability are at the solution level across multiple teams.

The Loyalty Program team provides backend services that support the Lifecycle of a Nordy Club member’s, earning, redemption and reward process. The goal is to deliver services that are not only transactional but engage, reward and provides exclusive experiences for pour most valuable customers. The Gift card team manages services that support Nordstrom’s ability to offer both physical and electronic Gift Cards through multiple channels. The Gift Card program is a significant lever for Customer Acquisition and activation. It is also significant in driving customer trips and spend.

**A day in the life…**

+ Apply advanced concepts, theories and principles to create multi-disciplinary innovations and solutions for the most complex or risky business situations

+ Contribute to development of new principles and concepts

+ Collaborate with and influence team, partners and organization

+ Provide thought leadership across multiple organizations to ensure that systems and services are designed, and operating to achieve optimal levels of performance, reliability and sustainability

+ Ensure security coding practices and security system fundamentals across multiple organizations

+ Demonstrate ability to identify important areas to instrument across multiple organizations

+ Identify & interpret KPIs for continuous improvement across multiple organizations

**You own this if you have…**

+ 10+ years professional experience in practice area

+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering

+ 8+ years professional experience of software development is required, experience on the Linux/Java platform is preferred.

+ 5+ years of experience of building solutions in an agile environment

+ Experience with Java, C#, Python, & Kubernetes

+ Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka

+ Experience with AWS or other cloud-based environments and tools

+ Experience with React, Node.js and Golang

+ Real passion for a build, measure and learn approach to software delivery

+ Enthusiasm for learning and improving yourself—especially as it pertains to your career in technology

+ Excitement for automating everything—once a process is established you are eager to hand it off to robots in order to start working on the next thing of value
