Senior Managers within Technology at Nordstrom help create an inspiring workplace where talented people are empowered to drive amazing customer experiences and business results. Through broad industry and practice knowledge and hands-on technical management experience, the Senior Manager guides a team of professionals to execute strategy and tactics that deliver desired results.
As the Payments Technology Team, we own a critical pipeline that powers the frictionless online and store payment capabilities for Nordstrom. Our system provides fast and secure payment solutions, enables modern digital payment methods, and prevents fraud & abuse in the space.
We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to oversee the store payments backend development. This person will build and lead a development team, create a new payments backend infrastructure to support the Nordstrom stores. Over a short period of time, this person will grow the team and scope to meet the Nordstrom customers’ increasing demand of the digital payments experience.
**A day in the life…**
+ Build an effective software development team, hire talents, plan resources, manage performance.
+ Understand the business and product vision, collaborate with stakeholders, and set the team’s
+ technology and process strategies to align with the vision.
+ Lead the software development activities such as design sessions and code reviews in a hands-on style,
+ ensure the team applies the software development best practices, makes smart decisions and
+ tradeoffs, and delivers the projects on time with high quality.
+ Understand architecture and systems at the organization level. Drive communications across teams,
+ align timeline and dependencies, drive comprehensive solutions spanning multiple teams.
+ Drive operation excellence, proactively identify system and process weakness to prevent production
+ downtime, take timely measures to remediate production incidents.
+ Empower developers, coach them to build their careers, foster team collaboration.
+ Cultivate technical leaders and grow the team.
**You own this if you have…**
+ 10+ years of professional experience and a related Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
+ 5+ years of experience managing technical teams
+ Comprehensive knowledge of backend technology – Java, AWS, APIs, services, database technologies,
+ Strong communication, leadership, organizing and problem-solving skills
+ Experience with payment and store retail industries a huge plus for this role
