**Job Description**

**Nordstrom is scaling its compute platform, based on Kubernetes, from the cloud into its datacenters and stores. We are hiring engineers, at levels ranging from Engineer 2 through Sr2, who have a background in software engineering and are passionate about high-performance computing to help us reach the future of retail.**

**Our platform simplifies application deployment, reduces operational overhead for application developers, automates infrastructure, and dramatically reduces the cost of compute. We do this by melding open source systems, like Kubernetes, with our own integrations. By expanding the platform into datacenters and stores, developers will have a consistent, cloud-like experience no matter where their software runs. We are obsessed with creating joyful experiences for engineers, giving them the ability to ship high-quality code at light speed and to run apps with little operational overhead so they can focus on solving today’s retail challenges.**

**Things you’ll do:**

**Design highly available systems that power thousands of services and the productivity of Nordstrom application developers**

**Write new applications and controllers that integrate Kubernetes with external systems and infrastructure**

**Write code to automate the lifecycle of deploying and managing a whole platform**

**Work with and gain deep knowledge in the open-source heavy hitters, Kubernetes and Linux, by contributing features and bug fixes**

**Contribute to our monitoring, alerting, and test suite**

**Diagnose and fix the system when it breaks, sharing responsibility of being on-call**

**Learn from other Nordstrom developers about their challenges to influence and inspire our roadmap.**

**Write about your experiences in blog posts and talk about them at conferences**

**We are looking for:**

**Passion for container technologies, high-performance compute, and low-level system internals**

**Breadth of experience with software / computer engineering**

**A team player who mentors / accepts mentorship and works openly with others**

**Bias toward action with quality and test automation as the top priority**

**Driven to make a big impact**

**Degree in computer science or equivalent experience**

**Experience with Kubernetes or Linux internals, networking, infrastructure, performance optimization, Go is beneficial**

**We’ve got you covered…**
