Helps to lead and implement the company’s global communications strategy and ensure engagement with all of our key audiences – both internally and externally.

**What you’ll do**

+ Develops actionable holistic communications strategies with the goal of improving American’s reputation among customers, team members, media, and influencers

+ Spearheads our commercial communications work and planning processes across earned and paid channels

+ Provides strategic advice to senior leadership team on storytelling and media

+ Leverages the Company’s existing media and third-party influential relationships to enhance relationships

+ Identifies, shapes, and pitches proactive company stories that reinforce key business strategies and results

+ Manages a combination of traditional and digital communications channels

+ Establishes and maintains successful partnerships with other leaders and teams from across the airline, including marketing, brand, loyalty, premium experience, and customer experience

+ Serves as a company spokesperson

+ Engages in ongoing engagements with reporters, including pitching stories and responding to incoming inquiries

**All you’ll need for success**

**Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience**

+ Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity

+ Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience/training

**Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience**

+ 10 years of leadership experience, including social media, internal communications, media relations and marketing; 12 to 15 years preferred

**Skills, Licenses & Certifications**

+ Extensive professional experience in communications planning and media relations for a major corporation

+ Extensive storytelling experience

+ History of strong, caring leadership and developing team members

+ Extensive experience mitigating a diverse mix of high-visibility crises and issues management scenarios

+ Creative thinker who is solutions and results-oriented with a passion for the airline industry

+ Highly developed interpersonal skills, demonstrated through experience developing and growing internal, external, and cross-functional relationships

+ Ability to build consensus and influence others through outstanding interpersonal skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills

+ Impeccable project planning and organizational skills, with ability to effectively and simultaneously manage multiple large projects within tight deadlines and maintain attention to detail

+ Ability to remain calm and maintain poise in difficult/stressful situations

+ Ability to adapt and respond quickly to changing landscapes and to work well under pressure and deadlines

+ Ability to exercise sound business judgment and handle confidential information with sensitivity

+ Ability to distill complex messages into simple, relevant, and meaningful communications which can be distributed to a geographically dispersed audience

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively and clearly communicate a strategic vision; ability explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences

+ Ability to travel

+ Proficient with Microsoft Office software
